New Order Amish and the Hutterites

The New Order Amish is a break off of the Old Order Amish as the name implies. We’ve attended the church services of the New Order Amish three times so far and enjoy their spirit and love. I learned yesterday in a conversation with an 18 year old woman that she moved to Jamesport from another New Order Amish group in Kentucky where her parents still reside. She moved here to Missouri to be able to date a young man that is a member of this New Order Amish. That makes total sense because this is what the Amish do, they visit other Amish groups to find mates. I would not be surprised to find that the different New Order Amish groups are connected financially also. I was told that the Jamesport Old Order Amish this last year combined their finances with another large group in East, Ohio or Pennsylvania, I forget. They pool their money like insurance to cover catastrophic loses, liability, and sickness. The more people contributing to the pool the more ability they have to cover expenses. I talked to an Old Order Amish business man and he told me he was a member of a committed that covered business liabilities and that there were four different committees that covered other aspects of their lives. I am so impressed with the way they watch over each other. it really puts the main stream Christian churches that are so totally involved with the insurance and their 501C3 tax exempt government religions to shame, including the vaulted Mormon church with their welfare system. I’m not saying they Amish are saints and everyone else are evil, but the fact is the church of God does not exist on the face of the earth today. I’m just saying that these Anabaptist groups (Amish, Mennonite and Hutterite) have developed systems that take care of each other in a much more complete and Christ like way. They organize autonomous groups that are linked together financially. To me it sounds like what Joseph Smith proposed with small communities called stakes that were linked to the main church in Zion. All the Amish pay their taxes and support Babylon in her glory but still are able to separate themselves in other ways that the main stream churches can’t or won’t.

Back to the New Order Amish. The New Order Amish split off from the Old Order to be free to worship God according to their conscious. As we have talked with the members of the New Order Amish their reasons for splitting off from the main body were very similar to our reasons for leaving the Mormon church. The New Order Amish hold to exactly the same Anabaptist beliefs as the Old Order but they have made a few refinements, refinements that the Old Order can’t abide, so they have been excommunicated and are shunned (they can’t have any business or social dealings with the shunned individuals). This group of New Order Amish consists of about 10 families, under a Bishop with Deacons. That’s another point. Their Deacons are men, not 12 year old boys. The example of the office of Deacon in the New Testament were married men of experience and maturity. I did some research into the evolution of the Aaronic priesthood in the Mormon Church and according to the articles that I read the Arronic priesthood offices were given to boys and young men because the men were being ordained to be Seventies and High Priests in such numbers that the wards didn’t have enough men to fill the Arronic duties. So a pilot program was established to use the boys and young men to fill those offices. So God inspired the leadership to change the priesthood offices of the church through a pilot program to keep the young men occupied. Wow.

(1 Timothy 3:8 – 13) 8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; 9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. 10 And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless. 11 Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things. 12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. 13 For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

The New Order Amish have changed certain forms in their worship. A big one is they hold their services all in English which allows visitors to enjoy the spirit more, language is no longer a barrier. Maybe a bigger one is the New Order Amish have all wired all their homes and out building to the electric grid. They have electric lights and switches. When I went to the Old Order service I only saw one Bible which the preacher had, at the New Order Amish all the adults, women and men, had brand new King James Bibles. I’m not saying that that the Old Order Amish don’t study their scriptures at home, I’ve seen and bought a German to English King James Bibles for sale at the Old Order Amish store. But believe it or not German is not their language, the Amish speak a dialect of German called Pennsylvania Dutch, they can’t read German fluently. One of our New Order Amish friends told us they really don’t know German and all their hymns and scriptures are in German, therefore they are separated from the scriptures and totally reliant upon their leaders and tradition.

The same dear sister told us they continue to live the simple life of wearing plain clothes and using their horses and buggies so that they can still have influence in showing (literally) their brothers and sisters a better way to Christ. But that one growing contention is that several families want to drive cars. They have a group think, and they make decisions through their Elders just like Old Order Amish. Then when a decision is made the whole group abides by that decision, nothing has changed there.

I think I’ll post this, I kinda of rambled a little bit but covered most of my observations so far. The Hutterites are next and they are fascinating. Then I’ll go over the Mennonite church even though they aren’t mentioned in the title. We’re going to attend their services this Sunday. I’ll need to give a short history of where, how and why the Anabaptist religion began. I just love the Anabaptist religions (Amish, Mennonite and Hutterite) and the kind of men and women it that comes from it.

I also love the kind of good men and women that come from the Mormon faith. I love that God placed me in a Mormon home and grew up to love and understand the calling and mission of the prophet Joseph Smith and the coming Marvelous Work and a Wonder. I totally believe that Joseph Smith and many others of the 1800 church will return to fulfill their mission and bring back with them the priesthood and keys that will bring to pass the establishment of Zion in these last days. For Zion must be established and it’s stake build up and flourish before Christ comes in the clouds of heaven or the earth will be utterly wasted at his coming.
